Welcome
I’d like to share with you some thoughts about therapy and about who I am and what I do.
I could say that I combine a “cognitive-behavioral” approach with a “psychodynamic” one, but these are clinical labels and don’t really say much about what a therapist actually does.
Therapy is a collaborative, not a one-size-fits-all enterprise. I believe in “doing what works.”
Here’s how I’d describe my approach:
People do the best with what they have. Unfortunately, we sometimes do it in contexts over which we have little control, for example, in our families of origin. These experiences can then create painful beliefs and feelings that we carry into our adult lives and that we repeat and reinforce over and over again.
My approach is to help you change the mental loops and emotions that hold you back and create suffering.
I use a variety of techniques to accomplish this.
It doesn’t matter to me how severe your problems are or how much prior treatment you’ve had. It doesn’t matter to me whether you’re male or female gay or straight. What matters is that you are aware that something ails you and are motivated to change it.
